This blog is about technology, more specifically how to make it do the hard work for you. We can complain about features we don't need, but I'd prefer to look about how those unused or little-used features can make our lives easier. Most of my posts will be about the smart use of technology -- the 21st Century lifestyle, if you will. That also accounts for the title of this blog: Tech Frontiers. Information and Communications Technology is still a frontier, and I hope to do what I can to help smooth out the rough spots.

Every now and then, I'll digress from technology to write about my interests outside of technology , which include music and theater.

As to software for composing and editing music, I’ve been looking around for some time, and installed something called EidelMusic (??) on my Windows partition. Was pretty advanced though, especially for one whose last formal music lesson was in the 5th or 6th grade Our choirmaster uses this app called Encore — review at http://music-notation-software-review.toptenreviews.com/encore-review.html — but it cost almost US$400. Being a Free/Open Source advocate, I’ve been looking obviously for FOSS music editing software. I’ve found entire Live CDs at http://www.livecdlist.com/?pick=All&showonly=Media+Production&sort=&sm=1, and in fact have two of them: Musix and X-evian. Haven’t tried them a lot though mainly because there’s some hardware in my project-assigned notebook that they can’t handle. You might have better luck with a “white-box” PC.

If you can’t download the large ISOs, I can get them to you. Due to be in Aurora after the elections. Or, we can meet up in Mla.
