How to simulate a slots jackpot

August 7, 2006

You don’t even have to leave Metro Manila, let alone go to Vegas. Just take the LRT-3, the so-called blue line, the one from Santolan (Pasig?) to Recto Avenue in downtown Manila through Aurora Blvd. Line up at one of the ticket dispensers that takes in paper bills, and feed it a PhP50 bill. Your change clangs into the metal coin basket in one-peso coins. I rode the LRT from Cubao to Katipunan last week — that’s a 12-peso ride — and got myself 38 one-peso coins in change. I thought to myself “You’ve got to be kidding.” If that were a slot machine, I’d have wished for more, but as it is, I’ll be happy just to have gotten all my change.

While I’m on the subject of the train system, here’s a rant: Are commuters so lacking in common sense? Instead of allowing the departing passengers through, they just have to block the train’s doors. Some make matters worse by forcing their way through, bumping into debarking passengers as a result. When it’s their turn to get off the train, aren’t they annoyed at those who block the doors? Shheeeshh.
