How to simulate a slots jackpot
August 7, 2006You don’t even have to leave Metro Manila, let alone go to Vegas. Just take the LRT-3, the so-called blue line, the one from Santolan (Pasig?) to Recto Avenue in downtown Manila through Aurora Blvd. Line up at one of the ticket dispensers that takes in paper bills, and feed it a PhP50 bill. Your change clangs into the metal coin basket in one-peso coins. I rode the LRT from Cubao to Katipunan last week — that’s a 12-peso ride — and got myself 38 one-peso coins in change. I thought to myself “You’ve got to be kidding.” If that were a slot machine, I’d have wished for more, but as it is, I’ll be happy just to have gotten all my change.
While I’m on the subject of the train system, here’s a rant: Are commuters so lacking in common sense? Instead of allowing the departing passengers through, they just have to block the train’s doors. Some make matters worse by forcing their way through, bumping into debarking passengers as a result. When it’s their turn to get off the train, aren’t they annoyed at those who block the doors? Shheeeshh.

Hey Ms. Marie, haven't heard from you in some time. The last time I remember that we "talked", you "complained" about having limited access to the PC World (or it might've still been PC Digest) BBS — a careless oversight on my part. I certainly hope we had more pleasant conversations after that.
As to ITLawPhil, you must be a fairly recent subscriber, since I used to post there maybe three years ago — maybe more.
Lastly, thanks for the kind but undeserved words about my blog. I hadn't updated it in two months before the post where you left a comment. I really should update more often but alas, I keep losing the battle with sloth. If, OTOH, it's the look of the blog, I can't claim credit for that, other than my good taste in choosing the right design.
Sige, look around some more, there might be some stuff around here that might interest you.
Posted by descasa at August 17, 2006, 11:53 pmHey Mr. Danny!
I'm glad you remembered me– the former UP BBSer. Any news about the BBSing community? Did it die of a natural death already because of the Internet?
PC Digest was one of my favorite magazines then. It's about technical stuff but fun and easy to read and understand even if you are not a techie.
I loved this post about the slot machine simulation because I haven't tried the LRT III yet. Will write comments later on your other interests like music and theatre because I love them too.
Take care and say hi for me to the other former BBSers you know.
P.S. I think I still have your old PC Digest calling card somewhere because I rarely throw calling cards.
regards,
Marie Tayag
[3] A few BBSes are still around. Eddie Salonga's LiveWire is still there, and accessible through the Internet via telnet. I have to check the PhilBBS archives for the parameters. As to PC Digest BBS, that became the PC World Philippines BBS around 1995. It went down "temporarily" after my departure in 1998, and hasn't gotten back up since. I myself haven't called BBSes in a while since I don't have a modem that works with my OS (FreeBSD).
My old PC Digest business card?? Gee, I don't think even I have any of those anymore. None of the info there is current anymore. For one, the magazine is now PC World Philippines, has been that for the past 9 years. For another, the company is now Media G8Way, and they've moved from the SEDCCO Bldg to Eurovilla at the corner of Rufino (formerly Herrera) and dela Rosa. I think they may have a different set of numbers too.
I haven't posted anything on music yet. As to theater, here's one: http://www.descasa.i.ph/blogs/descasa/index.php?item=enslaved-by-technology
Regards.
Posted by descasa at August 18, 2006, 10:21 amGlad to know there are still a few BBSes around.
About your calling card, wala lang. I just like keeping calling cards as souvenirs from people who were kind and friendly enough to give them.

I was also a bbers back in college Nice to see a familiar name. my alias before was tats torres i have evolve so much but I miss bbs especially the slmr any ideas if this is still around.? Thanks
What the train people need is just a few cans of paint.
Paint an inner outgoing lane in the middle that will separate the 2 outer lanes for incoming passengers. I saw this in Taipei and it worked fine.
Alas, a late post…
Nice blog you got here.
Thanks for the kind words.
As to the trains in Manila — you haven’t seen them, have you? I’ve seen people standing smack in the middle of the yellow safety line as the train was coming in. I think the only thing that’ll keep incoming passengers from clogging up the outgoing passengers’ path is security guards, one for each door.
